With only a few days each year to have fun sledding in the snow on Long Island, below is a list of some of the places where you may be able to climb to the top of a hill and sled downhill. Southold Long Island:The Coves

The Coves At Southold Long Island is a private waterfront community on Long Island’s famed North Fork in Suffolk County.

You can reach The Coves in Southold by Route 25 to Main Bayview Road approximately 2 miles on your right to Meadow Court.  These townhomes were opened in 1992 within the Southold School District #5.  These are 3 bedroom townhouses with basements and garages, central air conditioning and electric heat.  There is a private beach, docks, heated pool, and tennis at this pet friendly community.  It is very rare for a condo to come up for sale at The Coves in Southold.  Also, there is a contribution fee that must be paid by the buyer for the Reserve at The Coves. The following are the condos, townhouses and homeowner’s association located within the Commack School District #10. These are all non-age restricted, pet friendly communities:

Tara At Smithtown: Known as Tara At Smithtown but is actually in Commack New York. Built in 1985 and located near Veterans Memorial Highway. It offers Ranch style one level homes, as well as 2 story duplex floor plans. The amenities are the outdoor pool, tennis courts, clubhouse and play area. Some units have garages. These are all attached units in groupings.

 

Indian Head Forest: Opened in 1988 with attached townhomes. This community can be reached from Jericho Turnpike approximately 1/4 mile to Indian Head Road and a right at the gated entrance. The condominiums have central air conditioning, gas heat, an attached garage and backyard patio. Some units have a basement. The amenities offered include a pool, tennis and gym. There are 3 floor plans known as the Arbor, Beech and Cypress.

Pinewood Estates: Cozy community of attached ranch style and 2 story townhouse designs with either 1 or 2 bedrooms and an attached garage. This Suffolk County complex has a tennis court, and the attached units have central air conditioning and gas heat. It can be reached by taking Jericho Turnpike to Kings Park Road and a right onto Sandy Hill. This community was built in 1990 and consists of approximately 42 units that surrounds Sandy Hill Road on 2 Cul-De-Sacs.

The Hamlet Golf and Country Club: Built in the 1990’s. This is a 24 hour guard gated upscale golf country club community managed by a Homeowner’s Association. The amenities include a clubhouse, pool, tennis, and gym. Home to an 18 hole par 70 golf course, this community is located by Exit 52 N on The Long Island Expressway. These are attached townhouses and also single family detached homes .

This is on a private canal that opens onto the Great South Bay.   
These Single Family Homes at Heron Pointe include central air conditioning, gas heat and 2 car garages. Most are Single Family Colonial homes, but there are a few attached in a group.

Indian Head Forest in Commack Long Island 11725 can be reached from Jericho Turnpike North to Indian Head Road, and a right to the Indian Head Forest Entry. Opened in 1988, Indian Head Forest, is situated within the Commack School District #10. At this neighborhood there are 2 bedrooms, 3 bedrooms and some 4 bedroom units. Some of the townhouses at this Suffolk County North Shore location have a basement and some have upper level terraces. The bedrooms are on the upper level. There are no ranch floor plans at Indian Head Forest.

Also, below are some helpful ideas on making the tree cutting adventure a memorable experience.

  • Dress warm when visiting any of these locations – boots are a good idea.
  •  Call the farm to make sure weather conditions are favorable and that the type of tree you’re looking for is available.
  •  Check to see if you will need tools like a saw and netting to pack up your tree, or if they are provided.
  • Cut the tree as close to the ground as possible so you’ll have enough trunk left to cut it a second time at home. This second cut allows the tree to soak up more water, which makes for a healthier tree.
  •  Once your tree is placed in your home,  keep the tree away from direct heat to help keep it looking and smelling fresh throughout the holiday season.
  • Water your tree daily.
