It was mostly farmland until the arrival of the Long Island Railroad in 1873 which allowed for easy access to New York City.  The commute to Manhattan is approximately a 90-minute train ride, or you can drive 15 minutes to the Ronkonkoma Station for express trains, which make rush-hour runs in just over an hour. St James Long Island is home to the St. James General Store which opened in 1857 and expanded to its current size in the 1890’s.  It is the oldest continuously operating general store in the United States.

You can reach Country Woods from the Northern State Parkway East To The End. Bear Left on Route 347 East 7 Miles To Alexander Avenue. Turn Left At Traffic Light and Country Woods Is To The Right.

Country Woods in St. James Long Island is comprised of Single Family Homes, with an electronic gate for privacy at it’s entry.  At this North Shore location, Country Woods has a monthly maintenance fee which is applied to the cost of the gate and the roads. The Homeowners are responsible for maintaining their own lawns and snow removal.  There are no recreational facilities at this sub-division, and owners cannot use the facilities at The Hamlet Estates, which was constructed by the same builder.

The Greens Melville New York – Long Island 55+ Neighborhood You-Tube

The Greens in Melville can be reached by The Long Island Expressway Exit 50 or The Northern State Parkway Exit 40S, near Route 110. You enter The Greens by the 2 security gates that monitor those who enter and exit the community, providing a secure environment for the residents. The main gatehouse is on Old South Path Road.

 

Opened in 2003, when available, The Greens has a variety of Floor Plans combining Condos, Townhouses and Villas within the setting of a private Country Club. Positioned on approximately 400 rolling acres, The Greens At Half Hollow offers security, amenities and privacy within a carefree lifestyle community.

 

The Villas at The Greens in Melville are at the higher price structures for the community and are the largest. They consist of semi-attached homes, both 2 story designs and ranch floor plans, with 2 or 3 bedrooms. All the Villas have 2 car garages, some have basements, and some have golf course views.

 

The Townhouses are 4-attached homes grouped together in a quad. The interior units have a 1 car garage, and the exterior Townhouses have a 2 car garage. The Condos are the most affordable units at The Greens at Half Hollow. They are upper or ground level units. No garages for these Condo units, but there is ample parking for you and your guests.

 

The Greens in Melville Long Island has a spacious active Clubhouse which offers a fitness center, indoor pool, card rooms, media room, a restaurant, and the lounge area.
